It’s that time of year again where you are probably looking forward to jetting off for a holiday in the Lanzarote sun, and after much deliberation you have found the perfect destination. Equally important is finding the right insurance cover for you and your family, ensuring that no matter what activities you choose to do, excursions you go on or what incidents may occur, you have peace of mind. The last thing you want is to be caught short and have your main annual Lanzarote holiday ruined when Europe travel insurance can be organised with such ease.

Insurance was once the negative factor that travel agents did not want to bring up through fear of losing a potential sale, it was an aspect of organising a holiday that we least looked forward to as it was seen as an unnecessary expense. Now the negative feelings towards insurance have subsided and it is accepted as an integral part of arranging any time abroad, we understand that losing luggage, possessions or health worries are easily contained with a relatively small financial outlay.

Ensuring you have the right cover for your particular holiday is very important. You need to do everything possible to prevent your dream holiday becoming a nightmare, what happens if you fall ill on holiday and require medical treatment, what if you need to cancel a holiday? An airline goes bust, or your belongings are stolen, all of this could result in expensive bills and destroy your summer. Firstly you need to make sure the basics are included in your insurance package;

  • Cancellation and curtailment
  • Delay
  • Baggage and belongings
  • Personal Liability
  • Emergency Assistance
  • Medical Cover

It can work out more efficient to go for holiday specific insurance policies, for example you can get backpackers insurance, family travel insurance, winter sports travel insurance and adventure travel insurance where all the necessary aspects of these trips are adequately covered. However you may still need to consider extras for things such as pre-existing medical conditions.

You also need to think about worldwide or European only insurance; you need to confirm that you are insured to travel to your chosen destination. Europe only policies are generally cheaper and cover more countries that you may initially expect; this is where it is important to check the small print. If you need to include America and Canada on your travel insurance then you may find a substantial increase in your premiums. Schengen insurance should also be considered, it can be a great way to protect you if travelling to or between any of the 25 countries that are members of the Schengen Agreement. Insurance is needed to apply for the single visa which makes travelling between the member states so much easier and stress free.

Don’t take the risk by travelling without insurance, check you are covered for everything, understand the excesses on claiming and most importantly have a great holiday in Lanzarote knowing not having to worry.
