Where is Lanzarote?

About 250 kilometers off of the atlantic coast of west Africa sits a grouping of islands referred to as the Canary Islands. This is a group of eight islands, the largest and most populated being Tenerife with about one million residents. Lanzarote is the fourth largest of the islands and it is known for it’s tourism.

It is one of the most popular holiday spots for people from the Britain and other northern European countries. However, it is also quickly becoming popular with citizens from other countries like Canada and the United States. The location of the island puts it in a perfect position to experience warm and dry weather during both the summer and winter months. This is mostly thanks to its location relative to the Trade Winds. This is one of the reasons why Lanzarote has become a hugely popular holiday destination.

The persistent winds and warm sea have made Lanzarote a hotspot for water sports like windsurfing and kite surfing.

The island has been formed chiefly by volcanic activity which resulted in many white sand beaches that are known throughout the world. The volcanic activity also formed some of the world’s most beautiful landscapes. So beautiful, in fact, that the construction of high rise buildings has been outlawed in order to preserve the natural view.

The Canary Islands are called a Spanish Autonomous Community because they are part of Spain, but tend to run independently of the country. The Canary Islands have their own form of government, including a sitting President. It is basically the furthermost South of any part of Europe which makes it quite unique. The mix of Spanish and sub-tropical influence have made the islands unlike anything else that you are likely to see.

The combination of incredible climate, African and Spanish influence and great location of Lanzarote are all elements that make it a great holiday destination. If you are planning a winter sunshine holiday and want to stay in Europe, you may want to check out Lanzarote.
