A new fairytale musical written by Tori Amos premieres in London, reports LondonTown.com

(TRAVPR.COM) UK - August 23rd, 2013 - The Light Princess, a new fairytale musical written by Tori Amos, premieres at the National Theatre's Lyttleton stage on 9th October 2013, with previews from 25th September. With the concept conceived in 2008 and the staging postponed last year because of a number of technical issues, the premiere has been a long time coming. Tickets to The Light Princess can be booked through LondonTown.com, with prices starting at £32. For visitors travelling from outside of London, a number of cheap London hotels can also be found on LondonTown.com.

The dark fairytale covers grief, rebellion and the power of love in its story about a prince and princess who have both lost their mothers. Unable to cry, the princess Althea becomes light with grief and constantly floats, whereas the prince, Digby is held down by his heavy-heart and inability to smile. In the midst of the war, the pair meet on contested land and start an illicit affair but the princess must still confront the darkness and her fears.

The production has a talented team behind it: iconic singer-songwriter and composer Tori Amos has created the music and lyrics alongside Samuel Adamson, who has previously created stage adaptions of Ibsen plays, Pedro Almodovar films and Truman Capote novels; Marianne Elliott, director of the multi award-winning The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time and co-director of War Horse, directs; and Steven Hoggett of Frantic Assembly choreographs.
