Playa Blanca – Lanzarote’s newest resort

Playa Blanca is Lanzarote´s newest and fastest growing resort.  And little wonder – as this former fishing village boasts the best beaches on the island as well as a wonderful microclimate.  Which means that tourists can be basking in sunshine here during the winter months whilst the north of the island is shrouded in cloud.

Playa Blanca is the most recently developed resort on Lanzarote.  Created during the 1990´s long after Puerto del Carmen and Costa Teguise to the north were well established as holiday destinations.  Comprising three small coves set within one much larger bay, which provides a well-sheltered location on the islands tranquil southeastern coastline.

The resort is named after the small white beach – Playa Blanca – which still lies a its heart and was a quiet little fishing village until the arrival of the developers some twenty years ago.  Playa Blanca has also long been the gateway to the neighbouring island of Fuerteventura – which can be reached by a short ferry journey across the Bocaina Straits.  With services running regularly from the harbour in the centre of the town.

Playa Blanca boasts two great natural advantages over its resort rivals to the north in the form of breathtaking beaches and wonderful weather.  Within the resort itself visitors can choose from three fine stretches of sand in the shape of Playa Dorada, Playa Flamingo and Playa Blanca.  Whilst fifteen minutes stroll away are the set of coves and bays collectively known as Papagayo.  Which are widely regarded as amongst the best in the whole of the Canarian archipelago.

The weather in Playa Blanca is equally impressive – as the resorts aspect and southern location ensures that it tends to enjoy the best weather the island can offer.  Which gives it a huge advantage during the winter months over Costa Teguise in the north.  As there can be a pronounced difference in climate conditions between the two during the peak Christmas holiday season.

These factors have helped to establish Playa Blanca as the second most popular resort on the island after Puerto del Carmen.  A position that has been further cemented by the fact that visitors can enjoy high standards of accommodation here at very reasonable prices.

For example Playa Blanca is now home to the largest selection of four-star hotels in Lanzarote. With popular favourites such as the Hesperia Playa Dorada and the Timanfaya Palace lining the shore.  Whilst those seeking self catering accommodation instead will find a huge range of villas in Playa Blanca to select from.  With prices often much cheaper than in Puerto del Carmen.

Playa Blanca is also an ideal choice for anyone planning to explore Lanzarote´s number one tourist attraction of the Timanfaya National Park as this located just a fifteen-minute drive from the resort.
