The Canary Islands is an archipelago made up of nine major islands. All the islands are known for their beauty and unique natural formations. Each year millions of people visit the islands. Some come for the adventure, others want to see the volcanoes, the unique flora and fauna that endemic to the islands and the stunning scenery. But by far the greatest number of tourists who come to the Canary Islands in general and the island of Lanzarote in particular, are there for the fantastic pristine beaches.

Lanzarote holidays are all about the beach. This easternmost of the Canary Islands is known for its incredible beaches. Each part of the island has its own special calling card. Some areas are prized for the white sand beaches. The scenery on other beaches draw sunbathers, surfers and divers. This leaves visitors to Lanzarote with a happy delima- Which fantastic beach do I spend my time on during my Canary Islands holidays? Some people take time to visit each one of the major beaches. For others, exploring the island looking for hidden coves and secluded beaches few people ever visit. Then there are those who find a beautiful place, set up a hammock and spend their holiday on the beach.

People who like to dive select Puerto del Carmen as one of the best beaches on Lanzarote. The clear, calm cool water, colorful diverse undersea life and beautiful sea floor draw thousands of people each year. They explore the waters for hours floating in the gentle currents that once guided sailors to the New World.

Puerto Calero is another beach popular with the diving crowd. Local guides can pinpoint all the best places for scuba diving. Scuba diving on Lanzarote holidays is a most relaxing activity. The white sands, the undulating sea floor and multicolored fish make the mundane world disappear.

Windsurfers agree that Costa Teguise is the best beach. The powerful winds, the wonderful water and landscape make windsurfing at Costa Teguise beach unforgettable. Papagayo is another top choice for windsurfing. The sun, the winds and the sea all get together to make this a perfect place to relax.

One of Lanzarote’s hidden gems is Arrieta. This beach just north of Costa Teguise is unique. While most of the beaches of Lanzarote are covered with milk-white sands, Arrieta Beach has black sands. This alone makes it stand out among Lanzarote better known beaches.
