VISIT COSTA CALERO ON YOUR NEXT TRIP TO LANZAROTE

Visit Costa Calero [also known as Puerto Calero] on your holiday in Lanzarote and you will be able to see one of Europe’s most prestigious and beautiful yacht marinas located just to the south of the resort of Puerto del Carmen.   Don’t forget to take your camera as there will be plenty of opportunities for some lovely holiday snaps.

The marina itself has over 420 floating wharves [a landing-stage built along a waterfront for loading and unloading boats], which can berth boats from 8 metres to 75 metres in length.  At any time, you will be able to see luxury crafts moored here.

However, to enjoy Costa Calero you do not need to own a boat.  Just enjoy the marina by strolling alongside the vesA Costa Calero beach scenesels and taking in some lunch or a drink at one of the many bars and restaurants that line the quayside.

The harbour was designed by Luis Ibanez Margalef during the 1980s and was initially blasted out of the rocks which line the coastline.  The first marina was half its current size.  It was only during the 1990s that it was decided to enlarge it and this eventually culminated in its expansion in 2001.  In fact, with the expansion of the marina, Costa Calero became a resort with its own hotels and self-catering accommodation. However, all the accommodation is still in keeping with the traditional architecture of the island of Lanzarote.

Catch a ride on a skippered catamaran from the marina and spend a day with professional crew and other tourists as you sail to the neighbouring resort of Playa Blanca and stop off at Papagayo beach.  Included in the price will be a bar, lunch and snorkelling equipment.  However, be aware as you may keep cool whilst sailing across the waves, but the sun is still very strong so plenty of sun protection and a hat are the order of the day.

Although Costa Calero is a fairly small resort and possibly not somewhere you would visit as a matter of course, we recommend that you spend at least half a day in this resort whilst on your Lanzarote holiday.
